Thiruvarur Medical College Hospital started functioning in the new campus from 21.04.2010. To start with emergency and elective cases were done in the ground floor theatre complex. After 3 months 2 elective theatre complex each with 4tables were opened. Initially OG, GEN. SURGERY and Orthopaedics departments were operating. Later professors, Associate professors, Asst. professor were posted in various super speciality depts. Paediatric, Plastic, Neuro surgery ,Urology departments were started. T he dept. of anesthesia is staffed as per MCI norms with1 Professor ,2Associate profs,3Asst profs, and 8 Sr. Residents.

CLINICAL SOCIETY MEETING:
Presenting of interesting cases in the clinical society meeting conducted in our hospital.
Basic Life support refresher course conducted for MBBS students, Nursing and Para medical Staff.
We are offering anesthesia services for the following departments and there has been an enormous increase in the no of elective surgeries. Allotment of theatre days and no of tables were done as per MCI norms.
Located in the 2nd floor 10am to 1pm daily.
Preoperative evaluation of the patient for any coexisting disease and preparing the patient for planned procedure. Call over to ward for assessing sick, bed ridden patients.
Fully qualified anesthetist is available throughout the day to attend to patients in need of emergency surgeries such as LSCS, Ectopic pregnancy, Gen.Surgery, pediatric and Trauma patients.
CENTRAL GAS SUPPLY:
Duty anesthetist will also attend to emergency calls from trauma ward, ICU’s and patients requiring respiratory/ventilatory care.
As a referral unit(Peripheral medical college) we are able to provide Good Quality Care to the needy rural people.
We have a central manifold room in the ground floor. From the mani fold room we provide regular 24 hrs supply of O2,Air,Vaccum suction, and N2o through pipeline system installed in our hospital to all OT’s, Emergency wards, ICU/IMCU/NICU and gen wards.
We have been supplied with an advanced airway management equipment( FOB) Fibre Optic Equipment.
Used for securing airways for patients with difficult airway eg; Restricted mouth opening due to TM joint ankylosis, facial trauma, Burns contracture etc.
For the past one year with the help of FOB we were able to intubate 25 patients with difficult airways for various surgeries. without FOB we wouldn’t have operated on these patients and may be forced to refer them to a higher centre.
VENTILATOR MANAGEMENT :
Dept. provides artificial ventilatory management to medical diseases such as snake bite, poisoning, pulmonary odema, surgical patients, head injury patients etc.
